New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center Receives Sizeable Workers’ Comp Dividend

The Ernest N. Morial New Orleans Exhibition Hall Authority (“Authority”), the governing board of the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, was presented with a check for nearly a quarter of a million dollars, as a dividend from LWCC for its continued commitment to workplace safety.  The Convention Center plans to use the dividend to re-invest in its long-standing commitments to the health and safety of its internal and external customers.

The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center was awarded the dividend through a unique, mid-year distribution by LWCC. As a mutual insurance company, LWCC is able to share profits with policyholders when it achieves strong financial results. Through its dividend program, LWCC has returned $848 million to policyholders over a period of 16 consecutive years.

“Our dividend program is made possible by our agents’ sound counsel to policyholders; our policyholders’ hard work and safety improvements; and our employees’ dedication to excellence in execution,” said LWCC President and CEO Kristin W. Wall.

“We consider our employees internal customers, and value their input while collaborating on ways to continuously improve our facility. The dividend from LWCC proves that our workplace culture of “safety first” not only makes this a safe place to work, but also has a real return on investment for our efforts. The dividend we received will be re-invested back into the business to continue to provide a safe environment for our patrons and internal customers as well,” said Michael J. Sawaya, President and General Manager of the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

In May, LWCC awarded the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center with its fourth straight “Safest 70” award, which is given to the top 70 of over 20,000 entities ensured by LWCC. The Convention Center was recognized based on the effectiveness of their safety efforts in preventing injuries and maintaining a consistent workplace safety history in 2018.

Seth Irby, Chief Marketing & Customer Experience Officer of LWCC presented the check at a recent board meeting of the Authority. This marks the largest dividend that the Convention Center has received to date. Since 2003, the Convention Center has received more than $1.5 million in total dividend distributions.
